The Independent Practice Promise
The Strategic Alliance of Veterinary Independent Practices (SAVIP) is founded on protecting and strengthening independently owned veterinary clinics and hospitals. As a member of SAVIP, I stand with fellow independent veterinarians to preserve and grow the future of veterinarian-led medicine and veterinarian-owned hospitals.
I believe veterinary practices should be owned and led by veterinarians—not soul-less corporations or BlackRock investors.
I believe that by actively working together, we can negotiate stronger discounts than any large corporation. These discounts are essential to being competitive in the marketplace, being profitable, properly paying our staff, and providing high-quality, affordable care to the animals we serve.
I am joining SAVIP because I believe in its mission and I pledge to do everything possible to grow veterinary medicine independence.
I affirm that:
I am a licensed veterinarian in the United States.
Check one:
I own 51% or more of my veterinary hospital
I own 51% or more of my veterinary hospital with my family members
Multiple DVMs are the owners of the hospital, and we together own 51% or more of the company.
If the majority of the company is not owned by DVMs you still can join SAVIP, but contact us by email: together@savip.vet to discuss your situation
I support SAVIP’s mission.
I will actively extend invitations to other independent clinics to join SAVIP, so we can grow our collective strength.
I act with the group.
Whenever possible, I will align my business with SAVIP by supporting vendors who support SAVIP and moving away from those who don’t. For those vendors that I cannot support, I will advise SAVIP of the barriers to adoption so that SAVIP can work to provide better options in the future.
I put patients, clients, and my staff first.
I will share the savings we negotiate - through better compensation for my team and affordability for clients - to help more families access high-quality veterinary care..
I protect our independence.
I will make business decisions that preserve my autonomy and strengthen the practices of fellow SAVIP members.
I share the legacy.
I will seek opportunities to pass my practice on to the next generation of veterinariansbefore considering offers from investors. I will seek to grow my legacy by mentoring independent-practice-minded younger veterinarians.
This is my Independent Practice Promise, and I sign it to support SAVIP, uplift my colleagues, and protect the future of independent veterinary medicine
