How to become a member?

Who Can Become a SAVIP Member?

SAVIP exists to protect, strengthen, and unite independently owned veterinary practices. Our membership is reserved for those who share our mission: to keep veterinary medicine in the hands of veterinarians - not corporations.

To qualify for SAVIP membership, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You are a licensed veterinarian in the United States.

  • You own 51% or more of your veterinary hospital—either individually, with your immediate family, or with other licensed veterinarians who actively work at the practice.

  • Your practice is independently owned and not backed by private equity or corporate investors.

We welcome general practices, specialty hospitals, small, large and mixed-animal clinics, and emergency facilities - as long as ownership and leadership remain in the hands of veterinarians committed to independence.

If you meet these qualifications and share our vision, we invite you to join SAVIP and help us build a stronger, united future for independent veterinary medicine.


Membership Levels

SAVIP offers several membership types. All memberships share one goal: keeping veterinary medicine independent and veterinarian-led.

Trial Membership

This is the starting point for new members.
To become a full member, you must:

Trial members get limited access but are encouraged to take full advantage of our resources and move toward full membership quickly.

Once you sign the Independent Practice Promise and start using our vendors we'll move you to the full membership. Our primary memberships are for the clinics, but individual doctors that would like to use educational courses and track their CE can join as well. If a veterinarian is currently working  for a practice member they should join under that practice (and the practice admin will have to approve them). If a doctor is not employed currently by an independent practice they can join as an individual member. The individual membership has a limited access to education resources about pathway to the ownership.  

Private Practice Membership

Designed for independently owned veterinary hospitals and clinics.

  • The clinic must be 51% or more owned by licensed veterinarians or their immediate family

  • Associate veterinarians and staff may create their own SAVIP accounts under this membership

Multiple Practices Membership

For organizations operating multiple clinics under a common ownership structure.

  • Must be majority owned (51%+) by veterinarians or their family

  • Ideal for small veterinary groups that remain independent and veterinarian-led

‍⚕️ Individual Doctor Membership

For veterinarians who are not currently owners, but:

  • Are licensed in the U.S.

  • Aspire to own or co-own a veterinary practice in the future
    This membership keeps you connected and informed while supporting SAVIP’s mission.

Membership Fees

SAVIP does not charge a membership fee, and we have no plans to introduce one in the future. Our mission is to keep independent veterinary practices competitive—not burden them with additional costs. Instead, we ask our members to actively support the vendors we partner with by using their services through our negotiated agreements. This collective participation is what gives us strength, drives better pricing, and ensures the sustainability of SAVIP for all independent clinics.
